How to grow up to become the Commander in Chief...Obama Foodorama previously posted about President Obama sharing a piece of fresh strawberry pie with a lucky little boy during a campaign trail eat n' greet in July, but the White House has newly released the above photo of the intimate moment. The pie eating came at the end of the President's cheeseburger and French fry lunch on Thursday, July 5th, at Kozy Corners restaurant in Oak Harbor, a city in the battleground state of Ohio.
Pie is the President's favorite dessert, and he seems to be showing the unnamed Buckeye State child both how to eat it and how to be in dire need of the First Lady's Let's Move! campaign.
The President was accompanied to lunch by former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, a national campaign co-chair, as well as by White House aides, who do not appear in the photo. Kozy Corners is a cash-only operation with daily specials starting at $4.65, and the President and Strickland debated over who would have the last piece of strawberry pie as they sat at a wooden table in the center of the diner, pool reported. The President--and the unnamed little boy--won.
Obama for America previously posted the photo, above, of the Presidential pie-sharing moment on BarackObama.com's 'Betting on America' bus tour blog, but the newly released White House photo by chief photographer Pete Souza is much more graphic. The child is not identified by name by the White House or by the campaign. The photo at top appears in a White House Flickr set newly released for July. The President's press corps was not on hand for the sugar-high pie moment, having been ushered out before dessert was served.
"All right, I'm going to eat my burger," the President said to the other patrons as he prepared to dig in. "And everybody just pretend like I'm not here."
According to White House Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses, who has been honored with the Presidential nickname "The Crust Master" for his exquisite lard-and-butter crusts, the President's top two favorite pie flavors are Banana Cream and Sweet Potato Pie. The White House has released recipes for Yosses' Rhubarb Strawberry Crumble Pie and for his Apple Pie and for his Key Lime Pie. Check the sidebar of the blog for all White House recipes, including non-sugar ones.
