The Vice President, who served with McGovern in the Senate, will "attend an evening prayer service" in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, according to the White House.
McGovern, who grew up in South Dakota, is being remembered as both a peace activist and a path breaker in the fight to end hunger. He passed away on Sunday, aged ninety. In his statement honoring McGovern, President Obama hailed him as "a champion for peace" who was a "statesman of great conscience and conviction."
The Vice President will attend the 6:30 PM service on Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls. A public viewing is planned for 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the church.
Funeral services for McGovern will be on Friday at the Mary Sommervold Hall of the Washington Pavilion of Arts and Science in Sioux Falls.
The Vice President is campaigning for his second day in Ohio today. On Tuesday, he appeared with the President at a rally at Triangle Park in Dayton (in the photo, above). The President is today on a four-state junket, which includes a two-hour stop in Los Angeles to film Tonight Show.
