President Obama's Schedule, Wed. Oct. 31, 2012: Visit To New Jersey With Gov. Chris Christie

White House cancels annual Halloween festivities for children; First Lady and Vice President hit campaign trail...
President Obama will travel to New Jersey on Wednesday afternoon to join Gov. Chris Christie in viewing damage from Hurricane Sandy.  He will meet with citizens impacted by the storm and thank first responders.  The annual Halloween festivities at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for local children and children of military families have been cancelled, the White House announced on Tuesday evening.  The President is scheduled to arrive in Atlantic City at 12:25 PM on Wednesday.

New Jersey was devastated by the storm with coastal and inland flooding from torrential rains and high winds.  Close to a million residents are still without power, and rebuilding is expected to take months, if not years.

"The level of devastation at the Jersey Shore is unthinkable," Gov. Christie told reporters on Tuesday morning. "It is beyond anything I thought I’d ever see."

The President early on Tuesday approved major disaster declarations for New York and New Jersey, and has also signed federal emergency declarations for 12 states and the District of Columbia.

The President and Mrs. Obama's annual Halloween festivities at the White House since 2009 included welcoming thousands of children for trick-or treating under the North Portico, as well as a separate party for children of military families, held in the East Room.
The campaign: First Lady and Vice President back on the trail...
With a week left until Election Day, President Obama has still not indicated when he will return to the campaign trail.  The President's last campaign outing was Sunday, when he delivered pizza to field office volunteers in Orlando, FL. Campaign rallies scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were subsequently scrubbed.

Vice President Joe Biden will campaign in Florida on Wednesday, delivering remarks at a campaign event at the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium in Sarasota, Florida.  In the afternoon, he will deliver remarks at a campaign event at the City of Ocala Discovery Center.  Afterwards, the Vice President will travel to Davenport, Iowa, where he will remain overnight.

First Lady Michelle Obama will campaign in the Florida on Thursday, attending events in Jacksonville, Daytona, and Miami Beach.  Early voting is already underway in the battleground state.

Mrs. Obama is scheduled to return to Washington, DC on Wednesday after leaving last Sunday for Chicago and then attending campaign events in Iowa on Monday. Her trip was extended through Wednesday due to the storm, though she had no official events on Tuesday.
