4 more years for 44: Mitt Romney concedes from Boston...
Chicago, Ill--Late on Tuesday night, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama were in a suite at the Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park hotel, watching the election returns on TV. The White House released this photo of the First Couple embracing Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden, taken "moments after the television networks called the election in their favor," according to the caption.
Mitt Romney conceded the election to President Obama at
12:55 ET from his headquarters in Boston. The President and his challenger spoke by phone
moments before Romney took the stage, he said as he graciously bowed out.
"I called President Obama to congratulate him on his victory," Romney told his supporters. "The election is over but our principles endure."
"I so wish that I had been able to fulfill your hopes to lead the country in a different direction...But the nation chose another leader, so Ann and I join with you to earnestly pray for him and for this great nation," Romney said.
President Obama and his entourage departed the hotel for their victory party at McCormick Place at 12:07 AM CT, joining about 10,000 supporters to celebrate.
