Behind The Scenes Video: Creating The 2012 White House Gingerbread House

The White House pastry team in action in the China Room...
The White House on Sunday released a time-lapse video of Executive Pastry Chef Bill Yosses and his team creating this year's incredible White House Gingerbread House.  In a minute and a half, it shows the labor-intensive action as the historic China Room on the ground floor of the White House was converted into a sugary workshop for weeks as Yosses and company constructed the North Portico view of the President's House, which this year is a traditional gingerbread base, covered with a special 'Decorative Speckled Bread Dough' to replicate the look of the White House pre-1798, before it was coated with white paint to protect the Aquia Creek sandstone.

The house has working lights, a candy Kitchen Garden and First Dog Bo, shadow box views into State Floor rooms, and special sugar-transfer photos.  CLICK HERE for an interview with Yosses about his masterpiece, hailed as "phenomenal" and "beautiful" by First Lady Michelle Obama. Yossess' 'top secret' home recipe for the Decorative Speckled Bread Dough IS HERE; it makes excellent holiday ornaments.  His recipe for traditional gingerbread IS HERE; it is used for the base, and also makes delicious cookies or ornaments, if baked hard.
