Follow @FLOTUS; East Wing asks for RTs to send birthday greetings...First Lady Michelle Obama marks her 49th birthday today, and to celebrate the East Wing unveiled its own new Twitter account, @FLOTUS, a first account for the First Lady's Office. The background on the Twitter page is a photo of Mrs. Obama working in her Kitchen Garden, and her avatar is a portrait in the Kitchen Garden with First Dog Bo. Mrs. Obama will be signing her own tweets with her initials "-mo" when she offers personal messages.
In the first and only tweet so far, staff asked for a RT to send Mrs. Obama birthday greetings:
"The @FLOTUS Office is now on @twitter & will post updates & pics. When it's her, she'll sign -mo. PS: RT to wish Mrs. Obama a #HappyBirthday," was the first and so far only tweet.
"FLOTUS," for those not in the know, is the acronym for First Lady of The United States.
In addition to her @MichelleObama account, which has 2,646,868 followers, Mrs. Obama also tweets on the accounts for her two signature initiatives, @LetsMove, which has 66,167 followers, and @JoiningForces, which has 27,083 followers.
UPDATE, Jan. 17: On Thursday night at 10:28 PM, shortly after she returned to the White House with President Obama following a birthday dinner at Georgetown's Cafe Milano, Mrs. Obama posted her first tweet:
Thanks for the warm welcome & birthday wishes! Join me & Barack for #MLKDay of Service this Saturday. Sign up: 2013pic.org/service –mo
