The White House Menu: 2013 Governors' Dinner

President and Mrs. Obama fete state executives with steak, seafood, chocolate cake...
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed a bipartisan group of US Governors to the White House on Sunday night for the black tie Governors' Dinner.  Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden also attended the first formal affair of the second term, which featured a four-course menu.  A FULL POST IS HERE. The President and Mrs. Obama entered the State Dining Room to applause from their guests at 7:17 PM, with Mrs. Obama clad in a sparkling silver sequined gown designed by Naeem Khan, and diamond earrings.  They treated their guests to seafood and steak, as they have for each of the four previous dinners they hosted for the state executives.  The dinner opened with seafood cocktail followed by a "Seasonal Kitchen Garden Salad," and the entree was aged beef ribsteak.  Dessert was a chocolate Opera Cake. The White House did not release the names of the wines that were poured with the courses, but it is a tradition to serve American wines.

Tony-award winning actor/singer Audra McDonald will perform after the dinner.  Guests were seated at round tables for ten, with patterned green tablecloths and large candles in vermeil holders.  Floral centerpieces were made of bright red, yellow, orange and maroon roses, mauve and purple ornamental cabbages, and berries. mauve and purple ornamental cabbages, and berries.
